USING PHOTOSHOP TO CREATE EFFECTS ON MY PICTURES...

PHOTOGRAPHERS THAT USE THE SAME EFFECTS...

JAN GROOVER

Jan groover's relentlessly formal still lifes of mundane objects brought a sense of Renaissance stateliness to postmodern photography. Groover began as a painter, and though she quickly moved on to photography, many of her preoccupations were the same as those of the painters she studied and admired: Giorgio Morandi, Cézanne, and Fra Angelico along with many other European masters of the 14th and 15th centuries. focused on the everyday implements of the kitchen, arranged in the sink: fork tines, spatulas, butter-knife blades, whorled and scalloped cake pans, shot in such a way as to confound perspective and to transform light into a kind of object itself in the reflective surfaces.

IRVING PENN

Irving penn is an american photographer know mostly as a fashion photographer and also know for his portraits and still life studies. Penn's career included work at vogue magazine where he published his first cover for them in 1943 which was his first color still life work of accessories,  over the years he would create over 150 covers for vogue magazine, most of them being still life. he carried on taking photographs for vogue for a number of years, in 1944 he did his first fashion shoot for vogue which focused on the clothing worn throughout the second world war.
Penn liked to do 'black and white' photographs, this started in 1993 when he started experimenting with moving light in all categories such as still life, portrait and fashion, to do this he used a thin beam of moving light combined with a long exposure.
Irving Penn's first still life cover for vogue (1944)

Irving Penn's experiment with moving light (1993)

this is one of my favorite portrait pictures that Irving Penn had taken. the mans face shows a story of both calm, relaxed and tranquility and also thinking, wondering and pensive. both of these combined the story of this could be that he is just thinking about life and the good, positive things in his life and he's relaxed about it.
this woman has an attitude like she is proud and elegant. she looks to be wearing very expensive clothing and jewelry meaning she is rich and proud of her achievements. although she looks proud the expression on her face is intimidating, like she is looking down at everyone because of her money and class.

story board:

this is a 4 picture story board of Cal having a heart attack

this is a 4 picture story board of how smoking leads to death

this is a 4 picture story board based on a love story

this is a 4 picture story board on suicide

these narrative pieces were done with a digital camera and made to represent a story just by using 4 pictures per piece. the story boards not only show a story but send a message at the same time. The first story board shows that health problems can happen at any time, it shows Callum having a stroke and the friends/family's struggle and grief after it happens .the second story board is to show the causes of smoking in young people and the problems it causes from an early age such as heart attacks, strokes and cancer. The third story board is a love story between two people who just met, which shows it can happen at anytime. the fourth story board shows the worst effect of bullying in youths, how it causes depression and suicide in some cases.

Evaluation and Annotation: Photography

Throughout the topic of figures i have collected photo's from jan groover and irving penn. The research i have collected is secondary research as i found it on the internet from an online biography and the images i have also collected from those websites ( For the Irving Penn research i meanly used this website: http://www.artic.edu/aic/timeline/penn/ )

UNIT 3: TOWNSCAPE

these are some of the photographs i have taken for townscape, these i have selected are my favorites. i have chosen them because i found the angles, curves, color and textures of the buildings really interesting and thought it would be a challenge to draw and include them into my own work. Some of these photographs were taken on sunny days giving me the opportunity to take photographs of the light reflecting off the windows and brickwork of some of the buildings. it had also rained earlier that day meaning there would be shadows and reflections off the puddles and the dampness of the walls would shine in the sun.

photoshop edits of town scape!

i have done many of these kinds of layers and these are my favorites. my most favorite is the one that is 2nd to the bottom of the list that has the subway sign on it  because the photo is mostly unidentifiable and more abstract but the subway sign gives it a signature mark. to create theses pieces of work i worked in photoshop. i first layer my pictures over each other then played with the transparency of it to get a good balance of visibility between the two photo's.then i added different effects to the photographs by going to 'filter' then to 'filter gallery and choosing from the many effects, i repeatedly did this with many of my own photographs until i had about 20 examples of using effects on photoshop.

MY PANARAMIC PHOTOS

These are my panoramic's. i have taken many photo's of one area myself and then edited them on photoshop to make them look like one photo instead of many. To do this i opened all of the photographs in photoshop and each of them to make them slot together and create what looks to be like one photograph but with a bit of texture. For the first panoramic i took a verity of pictures randomly around one area and for the second i carefully took photo's in a horizontal line to the picture would look stretched and longer to capture everything that was going on at the construction site at the time.

Artist Research for Townscape

MARTIN PARR:

Martin Parr was taught photography throughout the mid 70's. He was first recognized for his black and white photo's in the north west of England such as 'fair day' (1984) and 'bad weather' (1982). he later changed to color photography in 1984. Parr's work has been shown in 80 galleries all around the world including the barbican arts centre in London. i like parr's work because he takes pictures of some of the bad things such as bad weather, big crowds and a messy environment, but you can also see the good in his photo's such as sunny weather at the beach, the company of other people and the nice experience of being outdoors.

These two are my favourite photo's...

i really like this photo because although the weather looks really violent, it shows the beauty of how the objects in the show look within the snow. Parr has taken this as a double exposed photo which makes the snow look like glitter when it's blurry which adds to the beauty of it. I also like how it's taken in black and white, it makes the snow stand out more on the black background making it more visible.
I like this photo because with the black and white background it conveys a sense of peace and tranquillity even though it looks like a very dull day. I like this though, without the heat of the sun, there isn't a very busy, hot and bothered atmosphere which adds to the fact it looks very peaceful.

WILLIAM EGGLESTON:

William Eggleston was born on the 27th of July 1939. he received his first camera in 1957 and later on started practicing colour transparency film in 1965. He received a national endowment in the arts photographers fellowship in 1975. in 1976 his work was invited in by the museum of modern arts as an exhibit "William Eggleston's guide". his work will still be found in galleries as well as online. I like his work as it represents fun in summer in both the daytime and in the night life.

these are my favourites...

I really like this photograph for the warm contrast of the colours in the sky and the green street lamp. I like the feeling of this picture as it looks like a sunset of a hot summers day. I think all these colours work well with each other even though they are exaggerated, it gives off a warm happy feel.

I like this photo because of the shadows and refection of  bright light from the sun on the red car from the sunset. again it has a very warm feeling to it , from not only the sunset but from the bit of clear blue sky at the top.
